The original housewarming – did you know?
As with many traditions, the idea of a housewarming party had practical beginnings. Before central heating, guests brought firewood to a new home and lit fires in all the fireplaces. In some cultures it was believed to ward off spirits that may have inhabited an empty house.
Common housewarming gifts today includes candles for warmth, quality olive oil and sea salt to bring flavor into the home, a broom to sweep away bad luck, a fire extinguisher, a personalized Christmas ornament, and plants to add extra life.
